“i don’t want to be alone anymore”
Zine
Spring 2020
InDesign, Photoshop
This zine project was based on the book Einstein’s Dreams by Alan Lightman. Einstein’s Dreams is a fictional collage of stories written by Albert Einstein in 1905 that deal with time, relativity, and physics. I chose the chapter “14 May 1905” to be the foundational theme for the entire zine. This story is about watching loved ones pass or grow old while being stuck in time. I was required to provide two additional texts; I chose to include a chapter from Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s book The Little Prince and the song In a Week by Hozier.
I took the opportunity to experiment with this project, where most of my work includes botanical elements and comes off as conventionally quite pretty, and I wanted the focus here to be editorial. I used bolder colors and textures, abstract imagery, and pulled elements from the texts to use as symbols. I wanted to represent how these pieces made me feel when I read them—a longing to belong, heartache for people, surrounded by the lightest layer of melancholy. I wanted it to convey the feeling of listening to classical string music… of watching someone spin in slow motion…of deciding you don’t want to be alone anymore.
