This project object was to develop a variety of systems within in a system. While developing a theme for the cards, I wanted a unique concept that represented my design sensibilities. Inspired by the Wes Anderson film The Grand Budapest Hotel, I had the idea of creating playing cards that had a vintage/retro feeling to them. I chose bright, saturated colors, illustrating all the cards in a simplified style. I used shapes as frames layering the foreground elements to create a dynamic energy. Each number and face card of the four suits differs slightly from the others, yet they all are a part of the larger system. Playing cards are a standard size - 2.5” by 3.5”.
